Journey into Engineering at UAA
Join us at the UAA Engineering & Industry Building for a night packed with demonstrations and great engineering discussions. Thank you to ConocoPhillips Alaska for supporting this event.
What: Meet engineering professors, tour research facilities, watch demonstrations, participate in activities, and learn more about what UAA has to offer to future engineers, computer scientists, geospatial professionals, and project managers.
Who: High school students and parents interested in learning more about the UAA College of Engineering.
When: February 18th and 20th,6-8:30pm
Where: February 18th UAA Engineering and Computation Building (3310 UAA Drive) and February 20th UAA Engineering & Industry Building (2900 Spirit Dr)
How Much: FREE!
Space is limited. We request that attendees limit their party to one adult, if possible.
February 18th
- Mechanical Engineering- Dr. Raghu Srinivasan, one of Alaska’s leading experts on corrosion chemistry, will demonstrate in the Environmental Degradation Lab (EDL)
- Computer Science & Engineering- Dr. Sebastian Neumayer, Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering, will demonstrate circuits implementing Morse Code and Pong.
- Machine Shop– Corbin Rowe, the machinist for the College of Engineering, will lead a tour through the machine shop, showing off fabrication equipment and ongoing projects.
- Admissions and Advising– Admissions and advising counselors will present important need-to-know information about tuition, scholarships, educational pathways, and more.
February 20th
"Girls in Engineering" Day- special presentation by E- Week banquet speaker, Jessica Vos. Jessica Vos Biography
Project Management– LuAnn Piccard, a former longtime executive at Hewlett-Packard, will demonstrate project management concepts by constructing a tower.
Admissions and Advising– Admissions and advising counselors will present important need-to-know information about tuition, scholarships, educational pathways, and more.
Civil Engineering– Dr. Polly Murray, UAA civil engineering professor, will break ice beams in the ConocoPhillips Structures Testing Lab.
Mechanical Engineering- Dr. Jennifer Brock, UAA mechanical engineering professor and Associate Dean, will present demonstrations in the Jan van de Top Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Lab.
