As a lifelong ice skater, Oksana Deyneka has always known the role nutrition plays in an individual鈥檚 performance. Now as a dietetics alumna, she also knows how proper nutrition can benefit an entire community.
Seawolf Nordic skier and health sciences sophomore JC Schoonmaker rang in the new year and the new decade by qualifying for not one, but two races in Germany. Earlier in January, he traveled to Dresden to compete in a World Cup race, placing 30th. This March, he鈥檒l represent the U.S. during the World Junior Championships in Oberwiesenthal.
Proper evidence collection and documentation after domestic violence or sexual assault is an important step to help women who have been traumatized. A unique forensic training academy at UAA is teaching nurses how to conduct these exams and is helping grow the network of forensic nurses across the state.
For many Alaskans, getting reliable access to quality health care is a dream, not reality. What can be done to change that? One piece of the puzzle: Helping students in health care programs go on to be successful professionals across our state.
