The overarching goal for the NRC-ANE is to advance relevant knowledge and research
for the wellbeing of Indigenous Elders through the creation and dissemination of products
that inform caregiving, community support for active and healthy aging, and strengthening
traditional ways that support positive aging. We aim to provide culturally-appropriate
resources and other materials of relevance to Title VI programs and tribal communities,
with the support of key community partnerships.
Carri Shamburger is the Program Director for the Dental Hygiene Program at UAA and recently earned her Ph.D. in Psychology with a focus on Cognition and Learning, strengthening her commitment to advancing education and student success.
Alaska 529 has awarded its 2024 $25,000 scholarship account to Matalyn Dart, an adult student and long-time Alaska resident. Dart was selected from the nearly 13,000 Alaskans who chose to direct half of their Permanent Fund Dividend to their Alaska 529 accounts.
Teresa Lowe, a Lecturer for the MEDEX Northwest Physician Assistant Program, a partnership between UAA and the University of Washington School of Medicine, has been recognized as PA of the Year for her outstanding contributions to the field.
Earlier this year, Megan Eilers, a health occupations teacher at Hutchison High School in Fairbanks, was named a 2023-24 Milken Educator Award recipient, an honor considered to be the 鈥淥scars of teaching.鈥
UAA School of Nursing Director Carla Hagen and Associate Director Kristin Lutz were inducted into the Western Academy of Nurses, recognizing their dedication to strengthening the UAA School of Nursing program.
